Introduction
The Governors of St. Jude's are responsible for the performance and monitoring of the school. Their responsibilities include:

  • Agreeing and monitoring the financial budget
  • Overall responsibility for staffing
  • Ensuring the curriculum is balanced and broadly based
  • Setting and monitoring appropriate targets for pupil achievement
  • Maintaining the school fabric, including insurance
  • Determining the admissions policy
  • Maintaining the catholic ethos of the school

The Governors meet half termly. Minutes of these meetings are available in school should parents wish to see them.

School Improvement Plan
The school improvement plan is a statutory document. It is a document that is jointly constructed and agreed by the head teacher, staff, and governors. It is formally adopted by the governing body and revised annually.

The most recent plan is here St Jude's School Improvement Plan 2003-2004(50Kb)

Diocesan Building Fund
As a catholic voluntary aided school, the government provides only 90% of the cost of maintaining and improving the school buildings. The remaining 10% is raised from parishes and schools. Within the Diocese of Portsmouth, the Diocesan Building Fund has been established to achieve this aim, to which St Jude’s subscribes. The Trustees of the Diocese of Portsmouth own the buildings and appoint the Foundation Governors who form a majority of all the governors. The Foundation Governors represent the Bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese of Portsmouth, and ensure that the school upholds the traditions of catholic faith in line with canon law. Each school participating in the Diocesan Building Fund is required to pay a levy to the Diocese. In turn, the school asks for a voluntary contribution of £10 per term, per child, from parents. This means that whenever a capital project is approved, the 10% governors’ liability is automatically provided by the fund and work can commence immediately. The contribution is voluntary, any one who cannot afford the full amount is asked to contribute in whatever way they can.
